Penguin Tag
(PSP all versions - no filters)

A tutorial by Mar ©2005

What you need:
Corel's PSP. Download a 30 day trial here.
The materials: Download here.
Open all images from the ZIP in PSP.

Open the font
and minimize.
You'll see it in your text tool now.

Save often.
Let's
get started. Good luck.....

This tutorial can only be done if you have Animation Shop (AS).
If you are a new PSP user and you only have PSP X without AS,
you can't do the tut. PSP X doesn't have AS in the package anymore.

Open the MD-Pinquin-pattern.jpg.

Selections > Select all.
Selections > Modify > Contract with 10 Pixels.
Selections > Invert.

Foreground to pattern and  look for the MD-Xmasgold.jpg.
Texture unchecked (= bleu hand).

Fill the selection with the gold pattern.

Effects > 3D-effects > Drop shadow > Black.

Repeat the drop shadow but this time Vert. and Horiz. at - 2.

Selections > Modify > Contract with 3 Pixels.

Fill the selection with #7c0903.

Selections > Select none.

Background to pattern and  look for the MD-Pinquin-pattern2.jpg.
Texture unchecked (= bleu hand).

Click and look for the opened Rockwell Extra Bold. It's in the ZIP.
Size 100 > Stroke 2,0 > B for Bold > Anti-alias checked or Sharp.

My name is only three letters. If your name is longer,
adjust the size until your name fits the background.
Example: Marijke (my name in full) is typed at size 50.
Merry Christmas is done at size 40.

In your Layer Pallet convert to raster (all versions).

Repeat the drop shadow at 2.

Open the MD-Pinquins.psp and copy.

Edit > Paste > Paste as a new layer.

With put the penguins on top of your name / wish.

Repeat the drop shadow at 2.

Layers > Merge > Merge visible layers.

With your magic wand (feather 0 and tolerance at 25) select
the first red letter. Push your Ctrl-key in and select the other
red letters until your whole name is selected. PSP 8-9-10 users
can put the mode of the selection tool to the preset add.

Notice!!!! Also select the parts that don't connect to the letters
anymore because the penguins are standing on it (see bleu hand).

Ctrl-key still pushed down (or add setting) select the 3 red caps.

If all went well you have this now.

In your Layer Pallet duplicate this layer 2 times.
You have 3 layers and the top layer is selected (=bleu).

Adjust > Add noise/.... > Add noise.

I have Monochrome checked.
If you uncheck this you will get a colored grain.
Do what
ever you like best.

Repeat this step on layer 2 and 3 but change the
amount of noise to 30 (layer 2) and
35 (layer 3).

Save your tag as PSP file.

PSP 7 users can just save as.
PSP 8 - 9 and 10 users......
Because Animation Shop doesn't
recognize *.pspimage you have to save as *.PSP.
This can be done in 2 different ways:

Use this one for all early 8 and 9 versions.
Animation Shop doesn't recognize *.pspimage from
PSP 8 and 9 so we save as a PSP 7 or 6 file. Like this:
Save as > Click options and save as a *.psp 6 or 7 compatible file.

Use this one for the latest versions.
The latest PSP 9 and all PSP X versions have the option to
directly save as PSP for Animation Shop.
Look in the pull down menu and select Animation Shop (*psp).

Now open Animation Shop (AS) .
Open your saved image. You have 3 frames.
Click Ctrl-A to select all 3 frames.

Animation > Properties for frame > Set to 10.

Click to play.
Save as GIF.
How to: look at the bottom of this tutorial.
