For this tutorial it might be easy to put this icon on your
toolbar because we have to copy and paste all the time!
Let's add this icon first:
Go to View > Adjust.
You see this screen. Click edit and in the menu on
the right click paste as a new layer.
Drag this icon to your toolbar. Close screen.
If you have to paste as a new layer, you only have
to click this icon and move your gem in place.
Open MD-Gem-Santa.pspimage (ZIP).
Shift D and duplicate. Close original.
You see I did made a drawing for you, this will be our guideline.
The line colors are the gem colors. White for the beard and the fur,
salmon for the face, dark red for the cap etc...etc.....
In the layer palette you will see I did name the layers already.
Work with care. Align your gem's properly.
Zoom in to have a good view.
Lock all layers except 'Back', 'Border',
'Start Border' and 'Base layer' so your
open layers are on top (2)... and on the bottom (2)....
We will begin with the fur.
Activate 'Start Border' layer (=blue).
Copy the gem (pearl).
Step 1: Paste as a new layer .
With mover tool place against the other gem.
Repeat step1 till you have covered the whole area.
We have lots of layers now. We're going to merge.
Lock the bottom two layers also (Base en Back).
Make sure you're on an open layer (= blue).
Merge visible layers.
Open the two layers at the bottom again.
Open the 'White Pearl' layer.
Activate (=blue) and copy.
Click your paste icon.
Go from left to the right.
You will notice the last pearl will be partly below
the red line you made earlier. That's okay. Continue.
At the end, go back from right to left.
If you're done filling this area, lock the two bottom
layers again. Merge visible layers.
Open the bottom two layers.
You still have your pearl on the clipboard.
Click the paste icon again.
Fill the pompom. Start on the lines.
Lock bottom layers, merge visible.
Open bottom layers again
Open layer 'Start Beard' and move in your
layer palette below your merged layer:
You still have your pearl on your clipboard.
Click your paste icon.
Align against the pearl that's already there.
Repeat. Start with the outside of the beard.
Cover the white line but stay away from the face.
Fill the rest of the beard.
Start on the left and go zigzagging down.
If you're halfway down, start on the right top
and work your way down until the other half.
Lock the two bottom layers and merge visible.
Open these layers again.
Open layer 'Face' and move below your merged layer.
Copy this layer. Click your paste icon.
Start on the outline of the face.
Fill your face, don't need to pay attention to nose or eyes.
Lock your bottom two layers and merge visible.
Open these layers again.
Open the 'Eye', 'Eye-2' and the 'Nose' layer
If all went well, they're in the right place already.
If not..... move up in your Layer Pallet.
Lock the two bottom layers and merge visible.
Open these layers again.
Open layer 'Hat' and move below your merged layer.
Copy this layer. Click your paste icon.
Fill the outline of the hat.
If you have any problems because your pasted gem goes below
your merged layer, lock your merged
layer for now. Open it when the hat is done.
Fill the hat from the outside in.
Lock the two bottom layers, merge visible
and open these layers again.
Open pearl.psp (ZIP) and copy.
Click your paste icon.
Place your pearls on the hanger.
Lock the bottom two layers, merge visible
and open all your layers now.
Move your hanger layer below your Santa layer.
Lock bottom two layer, merge visible and open these layers.
Activate 'Base' layer.
Right click and click on delete.
Confirm deleting.
Give your Santa a drop shadow if you like.
Finally I did paste 4 pearls on the borderlines.
Lock of your background layer and merge visible.
You can use all kind of patterns to make a Gem Ornament.
Black and white line art or cross stitch patterns.
I provided some patterns for you, in the ZIP.
Good luck.
Your Gem Ornament is done.
I hope you liked it and learn something new.
