Balloon New Year
(PSP all versions with AS - no filters)

A tutorial by Mar ©2005

What you need:
Corel's PSP. Download a 30 day trial here.
The materials: Download here. The ZIP is very large (3.02 Mb)
.
Download the ballons with the numbers 7-8-9 here.
To do this tutorial you need some knowledge of PSP.

Save often.
Let's
get started. Good luck.....

This tutorial can only be done if you have Animation Shop (AS).
If you are a new PSP user and you only have PSP X without AS,
you can't do the tut. PSP X doesn't have AS in the package anymore.
Below is a link for a free version of Animation Shop put out by Jasc.
Download to your desktop. Then  unzip if it's zipped. Click on the set up icon
and follow what it says from there.
No Key or registration required.
Full version. I don't know how long this link is valid so hurry.

Go back to your template.

Edit > Paste > Paste as a new layer.

In your Layer Pallet move the pattern down beneath the HN text.

Layers > Merge > Merge visible layers.

Effects > 3-D effects > Inner bevel > White.

Move your balloon under the A and P of Happy (see screenshot).

Move the balloons like in the screenshot below.

Do you see what the intention is??

Layers > Merge > Merge visible layers.
Lock the merged layer. Notice... this is very important!

Go back to the background you made smaller (-) and copy.
Edit > Paste > Paste as a new layer.
It's in the right place, you don't have to move it.

Open the last used balloon (the pink one) and copy.
Edit > Paste > Paste as a new layer.

Also copy and paste the other balloons (the 2 and first 0).
Move them on the same spot you have the last merged layer.

To see if your balloons are in the same spot as before, lower the opacity
of the latest pasted background to 50 so you can see the layer beneath.
Of course you have to unlock this layer for a few moments.

Move the balloons like in the screenshot below.

If, when you finished the animation, the balloons are not
all in the same spot at the top
, that is no crime.
They can flutter a bit because real balloons do so too.

Before you merge you have to put the opacity
back to 100 and lock the layer beneath again.

Layers > Merge > Merge visible layers.
Lock the merged layer. Notice... this is very important!

Go back to the background you made smaller (-) and copy.
Edit > Paste > Paste as a new layer.
It's in the right place, you don't have to move it.

Again open the last used balloon and copy it.
Edit > Paste > Paste as a new layer.
Also copy the other two and move them to their final spot.
Now open a balloon with a 6 (yes you read it right... 6 LOL).

From this point on the screenshots are not up to date.
Change every 5 for 6 and every 6 for 7.  I did change in the text.

Move all 4 balloons like in the screenshot below.

Also copy the other three balloons and move them to their final spot.

Also copy the other three balloons and move them to their final spot.
Now open a balloon with a
7. Put at the bottom like in the screenshot.

Layers > Merge > Merge visible layers.
Lock the merged layer. Notice... this is very important!

Now I will show you the screens for the next two steps.
You have to paste a background first before every step.

Layers > Merge > Merge visible layers.
Lock the merged layer. Notice... this is very important!

Don't forget your background!
Put the balloons so it looks like the
7 balloon
pushes the
6 balloon off the background.

Layers > Merge > Merge visible layers.
Lock the merged layer. Notice... this is very important!

Repeat this step and move the 6 out of the image and put the 7 up.
Remove the layer with the
6.
If you don't the confetti handles will stay in sight.

Layers > Merge > Merge visible layers.
Lock the merged layer. Notice... this is very important!

All layers must be locked now.

Go back to the background you made smaller (-) and copy.
Edit > Paste > Paste as a new layer.
It's in the right place, you don't have to move it.

Go 1 level down in your layer Pallet. That is de layer where 2006 is in place.
Duplicate that layer and move this layer up so this is the top layer.
Make sure all layers, except this one and your pasted background are locked.
Reduce the opacity of the balloon layer to 60.

See them fading? Not the background since you
have that beneath the balloons as well.

Layers > Merge > Merge visible layers.
Lock the merged layer. Notice... this is very important!

In your layer Pallet go one level down and duplicate it.
In your Layer pallet move this copy layer all the way up to the top.

If you unlock the top 3 layers you will see a normal on first.
The second layer from the top is the faded layer
And the third layer from the top is a normal one again. Check this.

Lock the layers again so all layers are locked.

Go back to the background you made smaller (-) and copy.
Edit > Paste > Paste as a new layer.

Open the MD-Firework.psp and copy.

Edit > Paste > Paste as a new layer.

Image > Resize > 60% > All layers unchecked.

Layers > Merge > Merge visible layers.
Lock this layer for now.

Go back to the background you made smaller (-) and copy.
Edit > Paste > Paste as a new layer.

Again copy the MD-Firework.psp.
Edit > Paste > Paste as a new layer.
Move the firework like on the screenshot below.

Lock this layer (all layers should be locked).

In the Layer Pallet go one level  down and duplicate.

In your Layer Pallet move this copy all the way up to the top.

Repeat this step.
So:
In the Layer Pallet go one level  down and duplicate.
In your Layer Pallet move this copy all the way up to the top.

If all went well you have 19 merged layers.

Unlock them all and save your file as balloon.psp.

PSP 7 users can just save as.
PSP 8 - 9 and 10 users......
Because Animation Shop doesn't
recognize *.pspimage you have to save as *.PSP.
This can be done in 2 different ways:

Use this one for all early 8 and 9 versions.
Animation Shop doesn't recognize *.pspimage from
PSP 8 and 9 so we save as a PSP 7 or 6 file. Like this:
Save as > Click options and save as a *.psp 6 or 7 compatible file.

Use this one for the latest PSP versions.
The latest PSP 9 and all PSP X versions have the option to
directly save as PSP for Animation Shop.
Look in the pull down menu and select Animation Shop (*psp).

Now open Animation Shop (AS) .
Open your saved image. You have
19 frames.
Click Ctrl-A to select all 19 frames.

Animation > Properties for frame > Set to 85.

Click to play.
Save as GIF.
How to: look at the bottom of this tutorial.

You can also make an animation like this with your name.
Very nice to make a Christmas Wish too
.
Reduce
the size of the the letter balloons in PSP if needed.
I have Zips in different colors.
When you start you have to covert the balloon to raster.
Select the white (feather 0 and tolerance to 20).
Click delete to remove the white.
Put in a temporary dark layer to see if all white is removed.
Save as PSP file.

You have to make your own background
if you want to make a tag out this tutorial.

Not all the alpha's are complete in every color.
You don't have to mail me to ask because this is all I have.

These balloons are all royalty free so no problem in using them.
I purchased them for this tutorial. Make your own animation with them.

Red - Pink - Bleu - Green - Bronze - Silver - Purple - Burgundy and Purple 2.

If you want to use the template 2 from the ZIP.... put in a background of your own.
Select the black letters and fill them with a nice color.

Your Balloon Animation is done.
I hope you like this tutorial and learned some new things.
Thank you for using my tutorials.

I wish you all a very Happy Holiday
Season and a wonderful and healthy 2006!

With the animation above I moved the balloons with a few millimeters
every time. This is to give the effect
if though they are moving in the wind.

For this animation
I have put a special effect on the last 4 frames in AS.
Notice please.... this animation is 97 frames so very heavy.
In Animation Shop:
Animation > Add a image effect  > Color rotation.
Repeat this effect on all 4 of the last frames.
