A tutorial by Mar ©2005

What you need:
PSP
Download a 30 day trial here.
Materials: Download here.
Eye Candy 3.1. Download here.
MuRa's Filter Meister: Perspective Tiling: Download here.
Unzip the filters to your plugin folder in PSP.
Close and restart PSP or your filter won't work.

Open the font
and minimize.
You'll see it in your text tool now.

Save your work often.

We are going to start now.
Good luck with your Cute Valentine Tag.

This tutorial can only be done if you have Animation Shop (AS).
If you are a new PSP user and you only have PSP X without AS,
you can't do the tut. PSP X doesn't have AS in the package anymore.

Open a new image 450 X 400 > Transparent.

Open two of the patterns that match your critter.
For this tutorial I used MD-ValHoney.jpg en MD-ValChintz.jpg.

Foreground to pattern and look for MD-ValHoney.jpg.
Texture unchecked (=bleu hand).

Fill your image.

Layers > New raster layer.

Background to pattern and look for MD-ValChintz.jpg.
Texture unchecked (=bleu hand).

Fill your layer with your right mouse button (the red).

Effects > Plugins > MuRa's Meister > Perspective Tiling:

Foreground to #f3740d and background to #ffc675.

Background to gradient and look for the fore-background gradient.
Choose the third style (Sunburst).
Texture unchecked (=bleu hand).

Lock your foreground style for now.

With your shapes tool choose the Heart 1.
If you don't have the shapes, you can download from my site here.

Draw a heart like on the screenshot below (not to big).

In your Layer Pallet convert to raster.

Image > Rotate > Free rotation > 25 Degrees to the left.
All layers unchecked (= bleu hand).

Effects > 3D-effects > Inner bevel > White.

Effects > Plugins > Eye Candy 3.1 > Glow > Color #ffe63f.

Move  the sun to the left corner like the screenshot below.

Open the MD-Sun (2 in the ZIP) and copy.

Edit > Paste > Paste as a new layer.

Move the face on top of your sun.

If you are satisfied:
Layers > Merge > Merge visible layers.

Foreground style still locked.
Background to #99d5e8.

Again draw an heart but this time a little bigger (see screen).

In your Layer Pallet convert to raster.

Image > Flip.

With move to the middle of the floor (see screenshot below).

Effects > Plugins > Eye Candy 3.1 > Glass > Color #ac7f80.

Effects > Plugins > Eye Candy 3.1 > Perspective Shadow.

Layers > Merge > Merge visible layers.

Now take your rectangle shapes tool.

Draw a shelf like the screenshot below.

In your Layer Pallet convert to raster.

Repeat the inner bevel > Settings like before.

Open the MD-Poodle-1 and copy.

Edit > Paste > Paste as a new layer.

Put your critter at the right side on the board.

Open the MD-Poodle-2 and copy.

Edit > Paste > Paste as a new layer.

Put your critter at the left side on the board.

Lock your merged background for now.

Layers > Merge > Merge visible layers.

Unlock your background.

You must have two merged layers now. Check it.

Background to #760d1a.

Click and look for the opened Abadi MT Condens. It's in the ZIP.
Size 18 > Stroke 0,0 > B for Bold > Align: Center > Anti-alias checked or Sharp.

Type your text. I used "Happy
" enter "Valentine".

In your Layer Pallet convert to raster.

Move the text on your flipped heart.

Lock the layer with the critters for now.

Layers > Merge > Merge visible layers.

Unlock your critter layer.

Select the layer with the critters sitting on the board.

Effects > 3D-effects > Drop shadow > Black.

Again  click on your text tool.
Type all letters capital (So put your Caps Lock key on).

Type the text that is going to move up and down with the board.
I used "HI LOVER".

Move the text somewhere between the critters legs.

Lock your background for now.
Merge the text visible with the critters on the board.
Layers > Merge > Merge visible layers.

If all went well you still have two merged layers.
Layer one > Critters on board with text (text without the shadow).
Layer two > Background with floor, flipped heart with text, and the sun.

Our tag still needs a border.

In your Layer Pallet select the bottom layer (= bleu).
Selections > Select all.
Selections > Modify > Contract with 5 pixels.
Selections > Invert.

Repeat the inner bevel like before.
Repeat the drop shadow Horiz. 5 en Vert. - 5.
Now repeat the drop shadow at Horiz. - 5 en Vert. 5.

Selections > Select none.

If all went well you still have two layers and this result:

So.... the base is done. Now let's go to the animation part.

In your Layer Pallet select the top layer (= bleu).
Rename it to Top.

Now select the bottom layer (= bleu).
Rename this one to Bottom.

Duplicate both layers 3 times (total of 4 each).

In your Layer Pallet move the Top and Bottom layers in turn.

See what happened?? Top-Bottom > Top-Bottom > And so on.
The Top layer always has a Bottom layer beneath it.

Lock the bottom 6 layers for now.
Make sure you are on the top layer (= bleu).

Layers > Merge > Merge visible layers.

Lock the merged layer and open the copy 2 of Top and Bottom.

Make sure you are on the Copy (2) of the Top layer (= bleu).

Image > Rotate > Free rotation > 25 Degrees to the left.
All layers unchecked (= bleu hand).

Layers > Merge > Merge visible layers.

Lock this merged layer and open the Copy of Top and Bottom.
Make sure you have the Copy of Top selected (= bleu).

Layers > Merge > Merge visible layers.

Lock this merged layer and open the bottom two layer.
Make sure you have the last Top layer selected (= bleu).

Image > Rotate > Free rotation > 25 Degrees to the right.
All layers unchecked (= bleu hand).

Layers > Merge > Merge visible layers.

Now you have 4 merged layers.
Unlock them all.

Save the file as cute-valentine.psp.

PSP 7 users can just save as.
PSP 8 - 9 and 10 users......
Because Animation Shop doesn't recognize *.pspimage you have to save as *.PSP.
This can be done in 2 different ways:

Use this one for all early 8 and 9 versions.
Animation Shop doesn't recognize *.pspimage from
PSP 8 and 9 so we save as a PSP 7 or 6 file. Like this:
Save as > Click options and save as a *.psp 6 or 7 compatible file.

Use this one for the latest versions.
The latest PSP 9 and all PSP X versions have the option to
directly save as PSP for Animation Shop.
Look in the pull down menu and select Animation Shop (*psp).

Now open Animation Shop (AS) .
Open your saved image. You have
4 frames.
Click Ctrl-A to select all
4 frames.

Animation > Properties for frame > Set your frame time between 45 and 65.

Click to play.
Save as GIF.
How to: look at the bottom of this tutorial.

Your Cute Valentine Tag is Done.

There are different royalty free critters in the ZIP with matching patterns.
Make your own Cute Valentine Tag with your own text. Use your fantasy.
You can also use heart shapes (and outline hearts) for backrests and handles.

I hope you like this tutorial and learned some new things.
