Night Safari Tag
(PSP all versions)
A tutorial by Mar ©2007

You can Drag & Drop the below hand
for a easy use of this tutorial.

What you need:
Corel PSP. Download a 30 day trial here.
Materials:
Download here.
Open all images from the ZIP in PSP.

Open the font
and minimize.
You'll see it in your text tool now.

Save often.
Let's
get started. Good luck.....

This tutorial is done in PSP 9.

Open a nice sunset image or use the ones from the ZIP.
Make sure the width of the sunset image is 400 pixels.
I made two Safari Tags. One for the African Savanna and one for a
dolphin or whale safari. Decide yourself what you want to make.
At the bottom of this tutorial are the different examples.

With your rectangle selection tool (feather 0) select the bottom (about 25%).

Layers > New raster layer.

Fill the selection with black.

If all went well you have this now:

Selections > None.

Background to black.

Open one of the MD-Safari masks.
Shift D to duplicate.
At the duplicate image click delete.
Now all is left is a black image.
Why we do this?? To get the right size.

Layers > Convert to raster layer.

Layers > New mask layer > From image.

Look for the MD-Safari mask of your choice and apply.

Layers > Merge > Merge group.

Copy your animal (I used the giraffe) and go back to your tag image.

Edit > Paste > Paste as a new layer.

We want to make an image with depth so we have to reduce the first animal in size.

Image > Change size > 75% Intelligent > Change all layers unchecked.

Apply.

Move the giraffe (or other animal) with their legs on the black.

Now open a second mask and duplicate as you did before (Shift-D).
Click delete again and you have another black image in the right size.
Repeat the mask steps and copy the animal after you merged the group.
I used another giraffe (MD-safari-Mask4.jpg) for my tag.

Go back to your Tag.

Edit > Paste > Paste as a new layer.

Move this animal, like the first, with it legs on the black.

I  also used the MD-safari-Mask3.jpg and after I did
the mask steps I reduced the size with 50%.
I placed those giraffes in the middle of the first two.
You see? Now you have depth in your image.

Open the MD-Tree.psp and the MD-Bush.psp.
Copy these trees and bushes and paste them on your Tag.
Move them as you like best.

My Tag looks like this now:

No need to give a lot of instructions since if you make the tag
with other animals the result will be very different.
So use your imagination. It is all about the idea on
how to get the right effect and size with the right masks.

You can now hang some birds in the air if you like (ZIP).
Try to get some depth with the birds too so reduce some birds in size.

Layers > Merge > Merge all flatten.

Image > Add borders > 15 Pixels > Color black.

Selections > Select all.
Selections > Modify > Contract with 15 pixels.
Selections > Invert.

Effects > Reflection effects > Kaleidoscope.

This kaleidoscope effect can be different with each sunset.
Play a little with this effect until you have a nice result.
PSP 8 and higher users can do this by clicking the dice.

Effects > 3D-effects > Inner bevel > Color white.

Copy this border. You will need it later.

Effects > 3D-effects > Drop shadow > Black.

Repeat the drop shadow but this time Vert. and Horiz. at - 2.

Image > Add borders > 15 Pixels > Color black.

Selections > Select all.
Selections > Modify > Contract with 15 pixels.
Selections > Invert.

Effects > Reflection effects > Pattern.

Image > Add borders > 15 Pixels > Color black.

Selections > Select all.
Selections > Modify > Contract with 15 pixels.
Selections > Invert.

The first border is still on your computer's memory.
Edit > Paste > Paste in selection.

Repeat the drop shadow at 2 and at - 2.

Foreground locked and background to #f8ce06.

Click and look for the opened SundownDCapsWide font (in ZIP).
Size 34 > Stroke 0,0 > B for Bold > Anti-alias checked or Sharp.

If you want to use another text you may have to change the font size.
Size 34 is not set in PSP but you can type the size in the box.
Size 36 is just a little to big.

Turn on your Caps Lock (Capitals) key.
Type your text.
I used "NIGHT SAFARI".

Layers > Convert to raster.

Move the text over the black past and make sure the
shadow of the letters touches the border as on the screenshot below.

When you are satisfied:
Layers > Merge > Merge all flatten.

Your "Safari Tag" is done.
