A tutorial by Mar © 2007.

You can Drag & Drop the below hand
for a easy use of this tutorial.

What you need:
Corel PSP. Download a 30 day trial here.
Materials:
Download here.
Open the two images from the ZIP in PSP.

Open the font
and minimize.
You'll see it in your text tool now.

This tutorial can only be done if you have Animation Shop (AS).
If you are a new PSP user and you only have PSP X without AS, you
can download AS for free at Jacs:
http://FTP.jasc.Com/pub/en/ani311en.exe .

Let's get started with the Fern Tag.
Save often.
Have fun and good luck.....

This tutorial is done in PSP 9.
Open a new image 400 X 400 and fill with #000080.

Selections > Select all.
Selections > Modify > Contract with 40 pixels.

Fill the selection with #0a860a.

Selections > None.

Adjust > Add noise/.... > Add noise.

With your rectangle selection tool (feather 0) select the middle part as
on the screenshot below. Make sure your selection is (about) in the middle.

Effects > Reflection effects > Pattern.

Selections > None.

Effects > Image effects > Offset.

Foreground and background to #0a860a.

Text tool .
Look for the opened Chell Chrome font (in the ZIP).
Put your settings like this: Vector > Direction down > Size 48 >
Stroke 1.0 > B for Bold > Align center > Kerning - 250.
Can't find Kerning?.... Click on the black arrows (blue hands).

If you use another text it might be necessary to change the font size.

Type your text.
I used "Welcome".

Layers > Convert to raster.

Effects > 3D-effects > Drop shadow > Color black.

Move the text on the blue part:

Open the MD-Fern-1.psp and copy.

Edit > Paste > Paste as a new layer.

Move the fern as on the screenshot below.

Repeat the drop shadow as before.

Open the MD-Fern-2.psp and copy.

Edit > Paste > Paste as a new layer.

Move the fern as on the screenshot below.

Repeat the drop shadow as before.

Layers > Merge > Merge all flatten.

Adjust > Sharpness > Sharpen.

Image > Add borders > 10 Pixels > Symmetric > 10 Pixels > Red.

With your magic wand (feather 0) select the red border.

Fill the selection with the blue: #000080.

Effects > Reflection effects > Kaleidoscope.

Effects > 3D-effects > Inner bevel > White.

Repeat the drop shadow as before but set Horiz. and Vert to 2.
Repeat the drop shadow as before but set Horiz. and Vert to - 2.

Keep the selection active.
Put the setting (mode) of your selection tool to add.

With your magic wand (feather 0 - tolerance 25) select the green letters.
When done the letters and border must be selected.

In the Layer Palette duplicate this layer 2 times.

You now have 3 layers. Check it.
Select the top layer (= blue).

Adjust > Add noise/.... > Add noise.

I have Monochrome checked.
If you uncheck this you will get a colored grain.
Do whatever you like best.

Repeat this step on layer 2 and 3 but change the
amount of noise to 30 (layer 2) and 40 (layer 3).
Make sure you select the right layer first (= blue).

Selections > None.

Save your image as fern-tag.psp.

Use this one for all early 8 and up versions.
Animation Shop doesn't recognize *.pspimage from
PSP 8 and up so we save as a PSP 7 or 6 file. Like this:
Save as > Click options and save as a *.PSP 6 or 7 compatible file.

Use this one for the latest versions.
The latest PSP 9 and all PSP X and up versions have the
option to directly save as PSP for Animation Shop.
Look in the pull down menu and select Animation Shop (*psp).

Open your fern.psp in Animation Shop (AS).
You have 3 frames. Zoom in and out again.
You can do so by clicking the plus (+) and minus (-) key on
the number pad of your keyboard. Now you see them.

Click Ctrl-A to select all 3 frames at once.

Animation > Properties for frame > Set your frame time at 8.

When done, click to play your animation.

Save your Tag as a Gif and you are done.
I hope you like this tutorial and learned some
new things about PSP and Animation Shop.
