A tutorial by Mar © 2006

What you need:
Corel PSP. Download a 30 day trial here.
The materials: Download here.
Open all images from the ZIP in PSP.

Save often.
Let's g
et started. Good luck.....

This tutorial is done in PSP 9.
Open one of the rose images from the ZIP.
If you want to use an image of your own, make
sure it isn't  to large. So reduce the size or crop.

I made this tutorial with Rose-1.jpg.

Effects > Artistic effects > Magnifying Lens.
With this effect you can focus on a particular part of the image and
magnify.
To get a nice effect I will show all tabs and show the settings.

We will start with zooming out the flower.
Click on the little minus magnifier beneath the flowers.

Repeat this as often as needed to see the nodes in your
left screen. This is to resize or place your effect.
You can see what the result is in the right screen.

Resize by pulling the nodes and put your mouse in the middle to move.
This step is very important. It makes or brakes your result.

The setting for this tutorial:
Tab 1:

We are going to make this tutorial  with a sphere shaped lens but  you
can also try the 2 other options. You will be amazed with the nice effect.

Tab 2:

Tab 3:

If the light is to much in the middle, you can roll it away with your mouse
by clicking the blue "Position" (= Blue hand) button and push it up a little.

Tab 4:

Take one of the Materials you like. I used the first one "Beige plastic" but I changed
the color to #ed97c6. Click in the little color screen and take a matching (light) color with
your dropper as you would do when picking a color for your fore- and background.

Apply.

My result:

Image > Add borders > 5 Pixels > Symmetric.
With your dropper pick a lighter color from your image.
I used #f07ca3. Write the color number down for later usage.
Apply.

With your magic wand select (feather 0 - tolerance 15) the border.

Effects > 3D-effects > Inner bevel > Color white.

Effects > 3D-effects > Drop shadow > Black.

Repeat the drop shadow but this time Vert. and Horiz. at - 2.

Image > Add borders > 15 Pixels > Symmetric > Black.

With your magic wand select the border.

Foreground to a light color from your image (dropper).
Background to a dark color from your image (dropper).
My foreground is #d77e9c and my background is #5f3d4a.

Foreground to gradient.
Look for the "Fore-background" gradient.
Texture unchecked (bleu hand).

Fill the border with the gradient.

Effects > Texture effects > Blinds.
Take a darker color from your image.
I used #3f102d myself.

Image > Add borders > 5 Pixels > Symmetric.
Use the same color that you used in the first 5 pixels border.
If all is well you have wrote the number down.

Selections > Select all.
Selections > Modify > Contact with 5 pixels.
Selections > Invert.

Repeat the inner bevel and the drop shadow at 2 and at - 2.

Image > Add borders > 25 Pixels > Symmetric > Black.

With your magic wand select the border.

Effects > Image effects or.... geometric > Offset.

Open the MD-Mag-Handle.psp and copy.

Edit > Paste > Paste as a new layer.

Move the handle against your magnifier glass.
If it doesn't seem to fit, rotate it a little bit so it will.

Open the MD-Mag-glass.psp and copy.

Edit > Paste > Paste as a new layer.

Move over your enlargement.

You can decorate the frame with tubes and corners if you like.
For me that was just a little to much so I left it as it is.

Your Magnifying Frame is done.
I hope you like this tutorial.
