Grandfathers Clock

What you need most of all for this tutorial:
A big amount of patience :-).
All other stuff is in this  ZIP.
Extract *.bmp files to your folder Patterns in PSP.
Extract*.msk files to your folder Masks in PSP.
To pick some hands
click this link
Right click > copy and paste in PSP as a new image.
The numbers and lock, open them in PSP.

Save often.
Here we go. Good luck!!

Open new image 350 X 350 > Transparent.
Foreground
to pattern > MD-Wood.
Background
to pattern > MD-Wood-2.

Fill your image with the dark wood.

Masks > Load from disc > Clock.msk.
Masks > 
Delete > Click yes.

Image > Resize to 95%.



Effects >
Sharpen > Sharpen.

Selections >
All.
Selections >
Float.
Selections > 
Modify > Expand 4.

New raster layer.
Fill with the lighter wood.
Selections >
None.

In your layer palette drag layer 2 below layer 1.
Merge visible.

Effects > 3D effects > Inner bevel.

New layer.
With draw a selection over the top part of your clock.

Fill with the light wood.

You must have this:

Effects > 3D effects > Inner bevel.
Same setting.

Selections > None.

With your  select both overlapping parts and hit delete.

Selections > None.

Layers > Merge > Merge visible.

Foreground to #B0734A.



With your click in the circle where your dial is supposed to be.
Selections >
Expand 5.

Layers > New raster layer.
Fill your selection with the gold brown color.

Effects > 3D effects > Inner bevel.

Selections > Save to alpha channel.
Selections >
None.

New image 165X165.
Fill with your light wood pattern.

Masks >
Load from disc > MD-Clock-rand.msk.
Masks > 
Delete > Click yes.

Copy the round edge and paste as a new layer  on your clock.

With  put into place.
 Now 2 times Effects > 
Sharpen > Sharpen.

Effects > 3D effects > Drop shadow.

Open  Cijfers-gld-raster.psp from your zip.
Copy and paste as a new layer.
With  put into place.
Effect > 3D effect > drop shadow. Same settings.

If everything looks fine.... merge visible.

You must have this now.

Foreground to pattern > Trudie-gold.
Open new image 20 X 60.
Fill with Trudie-gold.

Go to the clock parts page find yourself some nice hands.
Copy and paste as a new image in PSP.

Masks > From image > Find your hands.
Masks > 
Delete > Click yes.

Effects > Sharpen > Sharpen.

Zoom in really close.
Select the first hand paste as a new layer.



Image >
Rotate.

Effects > Sharpen > Sharpen.
Effects > 3D effects >
Drop shadow.
Same setting as before.

Selections > invert.
Copy the second hand
.
Edit > Paste > Paste as a new layer .

Image > Rotate

Effects > Sharpen > Sharpen.
Effects > 3D effects > drop shadow. Same settings.

With  move into place.

Close the image with the hands.
You don't need this anymore.

Foreground > Trudie-gold.
Background > MD-Wood.

With choose Ellipse > Retain style unchecked.

 

Draw a circle, where the hands are crossing.

In your layer palette > Convert to raster.

Effects > Sharpen > Sharpen.
Effects > 3D effects > drop shadow. Same setting.

Layers > Merge > Merge visible.

New image 225 X 75 > Transparent.
Fill with the lighter wood pattern.

Masks > Load from disc > MD-Clock-orna.msk.
Masks > 
Delete > Click yes.

Copy the flower border and paste as a new layer .
With put into place.
Effects > 
Sharpen > Sharpen.

Effects > 3D effects > drop shadow. Same setting.
Close the flower border.
You don't need it any longer.

New image 65 X 95 transparent.
Fill with the lighter wood.

Masks >
Load from disc > MD-Clock-orna-2.msk.
Masks > 
Delete > Click yes.

Copy the flowers and paste as a new layer .
With  move to the right bottom.
Effects > 
Sharpen > Sharpen.

You don't need this image any longer.

Layer Palette > Duplicate.
Image >
Mirror.

With  move into place.

With  select the top part of the flower.


Copy and paste as a new layer .

With  put in the middle of the flower border on top of your clock.

Duplicate this layer.
Image >
Mirror.

With put in place.

We're getting there, don't you think?
You must have this now.

If all is in place.... merge visible.

New raster layer.

Selections > Load from alpha channel.
Selections > 
Modify > Expand 5.

Effects > 3D effects > Cut out.

Apply.
Selections >
None.

Open lock.psp from the zip.
Copy and paste as a new layer .
With move to the right edge of your dial.

Effects > 3D effects > Drop shadow.
Same setting.

Duplicate this layer.
Image  > Mirror.

Merge visible.

Great............. you're done .

Optional a console....

If you will use a console
Resize your clock. Resize 75%.
Effects > Sharpen > Sharpen.

New image 300 X 75 transparent.
Fill with dark brown > #4D1B0D.

New layer.
Fill with the light wood pattern.
Download
this zip > extract and open the Console.jpg in PSP.

Masks > new from image. Find Console.jpg.
Apply.
Masks > 
Delete > Click yes.

Merge visible.

With select the dark brown.

Hit delete a few times.
Effects > 3D
effects > Inner bevel > Round.
Default setting except depth fill in 3.
Apply.

Copy this console and paste as a new layer, pull below your clock.

Effects > Sharpen > Sharpen.
Repeat if you have to!

You may pat yourself on the shoulder,
this wasn't so easy. I hope you had fun with this one!
